Part Six of our series features the Oktoberfest in Leavenworth, WA:
If any town can be called Bavaria, USA, it’s Leavenworth, WA. Situated high in the Cascade Mountain Range, over 30,000 visitors flock to this Oktoberfest over the course of the first three weekends in October. As AOL says: “You’d be forgiven if you thought you’d stumbled into a German town as you wander the streets of Leavenworth, with its half-timber architecture and alpine murals, alongside a crystal-clear rushing mountain stream. The town is known for its festivals, but none is as authentic-feeling as Oktoberfest, which fills the city’s streets with German bands and dancers, vendor booths, event tents and Kinderplatz (kids’ play area).”
Also, don’t miss the keg tapping ceremony, every Saturday at 1:00 pm, where the mayor of Leavenworth himself will partake in the Bavarian tradition of ceremoniously tapping the keg. If you’re going to go, make sure you have plenty of Bavarian gear to help you fit in, like this Bavarian Crest Beer Boot, or this Bavarian Crest Baseball Cap. For everything Bavaria, or any other Oktoberfest item, make sure you go to OktoberfestHaus.com. And if you go to Leavenworth, send us pictures!
Prost!
Tomorrow: Milwaukee, WI
Thanks for the kind words about our upcoming Oktoberfest. It just seems to be getting a little bigger and better each year. For folks coming to visit, just a reminder to get a hotel room or rent a house as soon as you can. Finding lodging at the last minute can be a little tricky.
