Oktoberfest is popular all over the world! Check out this fun story about Oktoberfest’s “Italian Weekend.” Every year over 200,000 Italians visit Oktoberfest, including 75,000 during just its second weekend. So many Italians come to the festival that the Munich police have taken to importing some Italian police officers for some extra help!

OktoberfestHaus doesn’t have any Italian items per se, but we do have a bunch of Alpine Hats – the Alps bordering both Germany and Italy – including this Alpine hat with the colors of the Italian flag.

The Official Oktoberfest Munchen is over, but the we’re still seeing new stories about all the fun had this year. Like this one, for instance, about the Bayern Munich Soccer Team attending the annual festival. For those not up on their Bundesliga stats, Bayern is crushing it so far this year – at the top of the standings in both the Bundesliga and their Champions League group. They took time out of their busy schedule to stop by Oktoberfest. Watch the video here to see the team in their lederhosen, eating sausages, and–wait–is that a 1 liter dimpled Paulaner beer stein? By golly, I think it is!

The day is almost upon us, the official start of Oktoberfest 2011. If you’re reading this from Munich, Guten Tag and Prost!

If you’re coming to us from another part of the world, we at OktoberfestHaus.com hope you’ve got the pretzels baking and the beer flowing. To spice up your celebrations this year, here are some fun facts that you may not know about Oktoberfest.

- The first Oktoberfest was held in 1810.

- Oktoberfest München is the largest festival in the world, attracting 6.5 million people over the length of the festival.

- In 201 years of the festival Oktoberfest has been canceled 24 times due to war, disease and other emergencies.

- 7,100,000 liters of beer were consumed at last year’s festival. That’s enough to fill almost 3 Olympic-size swimming pools!

- Only six breweries are allowed to sell beer at Oktoberfest. Those six are: Augustinerbräu, Hacker-Pschorr Bräu, Hofbräu, Löwenbräu, Paulanerbräu, and Spatenbräu.

Get ready for the festivities to begin. PROST!

Oktoberfest starts Saturday. But don’t worry, it runs until October 3rd, so there’s still time to make it to Munich and get your feel of beer, brats and pretzels.
